I’ve always thought of Paramount+ as the most “expendable” of all the streaming services. The first one I’d give up in order to save some cash. Perhaps this is unfair, but as a general rule, it has not had a big enough offer (for me) compared to some of its rivals. I have not been drawn into spending much time on the service.
Sure, I love Captain Catherine Janeway as much as the next woman, but access to the entirety of Star Trek would (probably) not be quite enough to keep me paying if I didn’t have all the streamers for work purposes.
Maybe things are changing though. In the UK, there is a new boss in town, with Anna Priest taking over as Senior Vice President and Head of Paramount+ for the UK. The Hollywood Reporter said that the company announced that Priest will “define the strategic vision” for the service in the U.K. and Ireland. At the same time, she will be “leveraging partnerships to identify growth opportunities for the streamer”.
I’m not entirely sure who was helping “define the strategic vision” of Paramount+ here in the UK, or what that vision was, before Priest got her promotion from CMO, but anyway…
There are also some big budget shows on the way, Deadline reported. These include “Gentleman in Moscow” from Sir Kenneth Brannagh, starring Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and the thriller “Insomnia”, made by the people who brought us “The Crown”.
In fairness, Paramount+ did have a successful UK launch, in which she played a pivotal role Data from Kantar in October 2022 show that it immediately overtook both Apple TV+ and Discovery+ and got into fifth place. (Worth noting, more people are now being moved to Disovery+ now that BT Sport has become TNT Sport.)
